Zzale Sagar, trading as Benkyou Academy, is the data controller for personal data processed through Benkyou Academy. This notice explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have.
Data we collect and why
- Account data (email, username, display name, password credentials, grade level) — to create and secure your account. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
- Study data (homework tasks, quiz and practice test answers and scores, essays you submit, mastery records, XP, coins, streaks, cosmetics) — to provide the Service, show your progress and generate feedback. Legal basis: contract.
- AI prompts and usage records (topic requested, feature used, counts) — to generate study material and to enforce fair daily usage limits. Legal basis: contract and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
- Support messages — to answer your questions. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- Technical data (IP address, device and browser information, log and error data) — for security, fraud prevention and improving the Service. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- Membership records (plan, status, billing period) — to give you the features you paid for. Legal basis: contract. Card details are never seen or stored by us.
Who we share data with
- Service providers — hosting, database, authentication and AI processing providers acting on our instructions.
- Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record, for the sale of memberships, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing.
- Professional advisers — legal and accounting, where necessary.
- Authorities — where we are required to by law.
We do not sell your personal data.
International transfers
Some providers process data outside your country, including outside the UK and EEA. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
Retention
We keep account and study data while your account is active. If you delete your account we delete or anonymise your data within 30 days, except records we must keep for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to our use of it, or provide it in a portable format, and you may withdraw consent where we rely on it. Contact support@benkyouacademy.app and we will respond within one month. If you are in the UK or EEA you can also complain to your supervisory authority.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, row-level database access rules so students can only reach their own records, hashed credentials and restricted administrative access.
Cookies and local storage
We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block them in your browser, but sign-in will not work without the essential ones.
Children
Benkyou Academy is intended for students. Where required by law, a parent or guardian must create or approve the account, and they can contact support@benkyouacademy.app to access or delete their child's data.
